Muntons, the Stowmarket based malt and malted ingredient manufacture, announced record exports from their plant.
The first week in February was exceptional, with 88 containers of malt despatched from their maltings for shipment to brewing customers in South East Asia. With each container carrying nearly 24 tonnes of malt this brought the total quantity of malt exported to just over 2,109 tonnes in the week.
But Muntons also make malted ingredients, and during the same week they loaded and additional 12 export containers of their products destined for countries as diverse as Japan, Indonesia, Ghana, Canada and the USA.
In total 2,369 tonnes of malt products were loaded, in 100 containers to 8 different countries – all in one 5-day working week.
George Irving, Muntons maltings manager commented “It is a credit to the production and out-loading teams, and also the sales support team, that they are able to manage this so well.” He continued: “These export volumes are impressive. And we also managed to kept our domestic customers satisfied during this exceptional period as well.”
Muntons make over 180,000 tonnes of malt annually and in excess of 40,000 tonnes of malted ingredients which they export to 73 countries globally. Their products are used in the production of beer, whisky and in a host of food applications, from malt vinegar and malt loaf to the centres of those lovely crunchy malted-chocolate balls that prove so popular.
