New truck for craft brewers
Muntons specialist delivery equipment
Muntons based in Bridlington Yorkshire, along with their haulier JR Hood Ltd, have just invested in a new bulk ‘blower’ truck to cope with increasing demand for bulk malt deliveries from craft brewers.
The UK craft brewery industry has seen continued expansion, growing in number by 10% over the past two years. There are now more than 1,300 breweries currently operating in the UK and still the numbers increase. As these breweries grow, some are switching from deliveries in sacks to bulk.
As Guy Newsam, Muntons General Manager, Malt Production, explains: “We are seeing an increasing number of breweries switching to buying their malt in bulk to simplify handling as their brewing volumes increase. This not only saves them from having to manually handle the sacks but also simplifies storage and use within the brewery itself. It was a natural move for us to purchase the transport equipment needed to deliver our malt using this convenient pneumatic system.”
The new truck is able to connect directly to the brewery’s silo and using air pressure, pneumatically fill the silo with Muntons malt, with the process taking just a few minutes to complete. The new truck clearly features the Muntons colourful corporate logo and will be servicing breweries across the north of England and into Scotland.
